PRIVACY POLICY

Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what data Skein collects, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. Skein is made by B·Sides Studio in Portland, Oregon.

1. Data We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account information: Your phone number or email address used for authentication, and your authentication token.
  • Patterns: PDFs you upload, web URLs you provide, and the structured data produced by AI parsing.
  • Projects: Your project notes, progress state, row counters, and any other data you create while using the App.
  • Device information: App version, iOS version, and device model are collected only when you voluntarily submit feedback through the App. This information is not collected during normal use.
  • Feedback: The text content of any feedback you voluntarily submit through the in-app feedback form.

We do not collect analytics, location data, browsing history, or contacts.

2. How We Use Your Data

  • App functionality: Your patterns and projects are stored so you can access them across sessions and devices. AI parsing processes your uploaded patterns to generate structured step-by-step instructions.
  • Parsing accuracy: We may review anonymized parsing results to improve the AI prompts and parsing pipeline. Your pattern content is not used to train third-party AI models without your explicit consent.
  • Support: Feedback you submit helps us improve the App and respond to issues you report.

Skein uses the following third-party services to operate. Each processes data on our behalf under their own privacy policies:

4. Data Retention

  • Patterns and projects: Stored until you delete your account.
  • Feedback: Retained indefinitely for product improvement purposes.
  • Authentication logs: Retained per Supabase's default retention policies.

5. Data Deletion

  • Sign Out: Signing out of the App clears your local cache and locally stored data from the device.
  • Account deletion: To delete your account and all associated data from our servers, please contact us at [email protected]. We will process your request within 30 days. A self-service account deletion flow within the App is planned for a future update.

6. Children's Privacy

Skein is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

7. International Users

Skein's servers are located in the United States (via Supabase and Anthropic). By using the App, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in the United States. If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, please review Section 8 regarding your rights.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights under GDPR, CCPA, or other applicable data protection laws:

  • Right of access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to deletion: You may request that we delete your personal data. See Section 5 for how to request account deletion.
  • Right to export: You may request your data in a portable format.
  • Right to correction: You may request correction of inaccurate personal data.
  • Right to object: You may object to processing of your personal data for certain purposes.

9. Changes to Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes:

  • We will notify you through the App or via the email associated with your account.
  • The updated policy will include a new "Last updated" date at the top.
  • Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
